Abstract
Abstract. This paper presents the results of measurements of the radial plasma potential distribution based on the floating potential difference of a movable probe. These measurements reveal anomalously high electric field strengths across the discharge tube cross-section, located in an axial magnetic field. The effect of varying the thickness of the near-probe layer due to the uneven radial distribution of the electron density across the discharge cross-section is demonstrated.
