Abstract

The development of carbonate reservoirs differs significantly from that of terrigenous reservoirs due to their geological structure and the presence of a developed fracture system. This study demonstrates the necessity of applying non-standard methods to monitor the energy state of such reservoirs. A reservoir pressure field was calculated using a Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) model. A series of numerical experiments were conducted for various values of the fracture-matrix permeability ratio (kf/km) and the fracture-matrix volume ratio (Vf/Vm). It was established that the permeability ratio acts as a regulator of the degree of heterogeneity in reservoir depletion. Within the framework of the developed model, threshold values of the parameters were determined: at kf/km < 20, the system behaves as a quasi-homogeneous medium; at 20 ≤ kf/km ≤ 105, a dual porosity and dual permeability regime is realized; and at kf/km > 105, fracture-dominated flow prevails. The obtained results can be used for the rapid assessment of reservoir type at the early stages of field development. doi 10.33184/bulletin-bsu-2026.2.2
