Phased antenna design algorithm for satellite communications

Abstract

In this work the problem of grating lobes suppression in radiation pattern of phased antenna arrays used for satellite communications is considered. For the suppression of the sidelobe level, irregular subarraying of the array is applied. For the optimization of the array structure an algorithm called “snowball” has been developed and implemented. As a result, the algorithm builds antenna arrays optimized for particular bandwidth. Several examples are shown in the work and compared to the state of the art.
