Abstract

The influence of the hollow cathode effect (HCE) in the ion nitriding of steel 16H3NVFMB-SH was studied. Plasma probe measurements was performed and charged particles density distributions was obtained. The range of pressures and voltages at which HCE is manifested during ion nitriding on the modernized ELU-5 was investigated. Obtained and studied the microstructure of the surface layer, and the surface micro-hardness of 16H3NVFMB-SH steel samples, after ion nitriding with HCE and without it.
