Abstract

The possibility of using TiO2 films as protective coatings between a carbon fiber and an aluminum matrix in a carbon-aluminum composite was studied. The oxide film was deposited onto the surface of carbon fibers by the sol- gel method. Samples of a composite with an AMg6 alloy matrix were obtained by liquid-phase infiltration under pressure. We studied the surface of carbon fibers and thermal stability after deposition of an oxide film. The mechanical properties of the carbon-aluminum composite were investigated. Microstructural and fractographic analyzes of the samples were carried out.
